Philly Tap Challenge "ON FIRE!"

What is the Philly Tap Challenge (PTC)?

Philly Tap Challenge is a new idea built on the foundations of TAP DANCE. It is a tap festival that honors Philadelphia's rich tap history and keeps it alive with tap workshops, performances and history. There are four components:

1. Workshops with master teachers and tap professionals

2. Live Performances

  • Amateur Showcase
  • Professional Showcase

3. History

  • Virtual Quilt Project Honors...
  • Tap Movies and Documentaries

4.Philly Tap Idol Competition

We are focused solely on tap dance.
  • Competitors get the unprecedented opportunity to CHALLENGE one another on stage, and winners perform with professional headliners.
  • We encourage all levels of dancers to experience the thrill of a live audience.
  • There will be only one winner in each category.
  • Audience members select winner ala Apollo Theater style

JA's PTC Mission

We: assist in keeping diverse styles of high quality tap dance synonymous with Philadelphia, and a vital part of American dance culture accessible to everyone; planting seeds of nourishment for the arts through outreach, performance education and training for all.

Why are we unique?

Jaye Allison's vision for a family atmosphere surrounding and driving the tap community to develop its principles as enriching engagements. Included are:

  • Non tap classes for rhythm seekers and for those who need to become more familiar with rudiments, elements, influences; the roots of black dance rhythms.  This is also inclusive for those parents who share the heart of a dancer.
  • Films that educate, entertain and can be shared with even the youngest of siblings available throughout each day on site and are free to the public.
  • Teacher's receive professional developmental tools from those 'In The Field', who hire dancers and or work extensively with dancers.
